Rancilio Coffee Machine Repairs in Cape Town
Rancilio machines turn up in two settings: the Silvia on a home kitchen counter, and the Classe in cafés and restaurants. We repair both across Cape Town, and we repair Rancilio Rocky grinders too.
Professional Rancilio Coffee Machine Repairs
The Rancilio Silvia is a single-boiler machine that has been a prosumer favourite for years, built around a commercial-style 58 mm group and a brass boiler. It is tough, but it ages predictably: the group gasket and shower screen, the three-way solenoid, the thermostats and the pump. Its steam performance depends on boiler condition, and scale changes both temperature and recovery.
Commercial Classe machines, such as the Classe 5, 7 and 9, are another matter. They run all day, so downtime costs money. Typical faults are group solenoids, level probes and auto-fill problems, boiler pressure instability, steam and hot-water valve leaks, and group seals that have simply done their hours. We prioritise commercial breakdowns; see our commercial coffee machine repairs page, and for home machines espresso machine repairs.

Rancilio Faults We See Most
Leaking group or dripping portafilter
A tired group gasket and shower screen, the most common Rancilio fault on both the Silvia and the Classe.
Pressure unstable or too high
On the Silvia, the pump or over-pressure valve. On the Classe, boiler pressure and the pressurestat or controls.
Machine slow to heat or not heating
Thermostat or element failure on the Silvia; element, relay or level-probe faults on the Classe. See not heating.
Solenoid valve problems
Water not released from the group after brewing, or a group that will not stop dripping.
Steam wand leaking or weak
Worn valve seals or a blocked tip. Weak steam on a Classe often points to boiler level or pressure.
Rocky grinder not grinding or dosing
Motor, switch, doser mechanism or a blockage. See our page on grinder repairs.

How We Approach a Silvia vs a Classe
For a Silvia, a visit or workshop repair is usually quick. We measure brew pressure, test the solenoid and thermostats, and replace the group seals as a matter of course when they are past their best.
For a Classe, we want to know whether the machine is down completely or still operating poorly, how many groups are affected and whether it is plumbed in and drained. Tell us when you call and we will advise on same-day assessment where our schedule allows. Regular servicing is how businesses avoid breakdowns; we can set up a plan through our servicing service.
Keeping a Rancilio Out of Trouble
Back-flush groups daily on commercial machines, wipe and purge steam wands after every use, and watch the water: a softener or filtration system is worth far more than the cost of the cartridge. Replace group gaskets and shower screens on a regular schedule instead of waiting for leaks.
For the Silvia, descale periodically and avoid leaving the machine switched on for long idle periods. For all Rancilio equipment, a short log of when things were last serviced makes future diagnosis faster.
